Trustees and Management of the Harley Trust

There are currently nine trustees.

 

Three trustees are appointed by, respectively, the Bishop of Leicester, Leicestershire County Council and Osgathorpe Parish Council.  

 

There are six co-opted trustees who have between them a wide range of experience in differing fields.

 

The Harley Trust has two regular meetings each year in April and September but can, if necessary, meet more frequently.

 

Much Harley Trust business is carried out by e-mail consultation between meetings.

 

The administration of the Harley Trust is carried out by Charity Link.

Paul Hackwood

Paul is Executive Chairman of CUF - the Church of England’s social action charity, Director of the Near Neighbours programme working to address segregation and extremism, and a Canon of Leicester Cathedral. He is also a Trustee of the Henry Smith Charity and has extensive experience of charity management. He lives in Osgathorpe with his wife Rowena and family.

Anthony Wessel

Anthony is the Bishop's Officer for retired clergy, widows and dependants and the Bishop's appointee to Harley's Charities.  He is former Chairman of the Leicester Real Property Company and a qualified counsellor.

Christine Radford

Christine has represented the County Council on the Harley Trust charity since 2009.

She is a widow and has 3 sons and a granddaughter.

Leicestershire County Council Appointed Trustee

Martin Buczkiewicz

Martin is former Chief Executive of a national charity promoting Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education in schools throughout the UK and abroad, including acting as a Consultant to the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and the European Commission. Prior to being CEO, he was a Senior Teacher in secondary schools in Hertfordshire, Wiltshire and South Yorkshire.

George Phillipson

George spent all his working life in the quarrying industry with responsibilities in the UK, France, North America and the Middle East. Since retiring his interests have been Rugby Football, in a spectator role, gardening and walking. He has been a trustee of The Harley Trust for many years and was Chairman for over twenty before stepping down in 2019.

Terry Higgins

Terry is Director of a building company, currently involved with charities for Young People; Lay member of committee at Loughborough University and former Treasurer and Vice President of a provincial rowing club.  His former interests included serving as a Magistrate in Adult and Youth Courts and being President of a National Trade Association.

Georgina Newcombe

Georgina is Sales and Marketing Director of William Davis Homes, Loughborough, commencing work with them in 1985 and becoming a Director in 2004.

Peter Sergeant

Peter taught at Loughborough Grammar School for 41 years, retiring as Assistant Headmaster in 2016.  He has been an officer in the RAF Volunteer Reserve (Training) since 1982, commanding the Grammar School Combined Cadet Force contingent from 2006 to 2016.  Peter serves as a county member on the East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadet Association committee and was seconded to the Department of Education, 2003 to 2010, as a consultant for and presenter of national examination officer training.
